The church in Pergamum (modern-day Bergama) was the third to receive a letter in the Book of Revelation. While they were commended for staying true to Jesus, they were rebuked for some of them followed false teachings.
The church in Thyatira was commended for good deeds, faith, love, service and perseverance. However, it was rebuked for being tolerant of Jezebel, a false prophetess who led some believers astray. She was given time to repent of her immorality but refused. Jesus warned that she would be cast on a bed of suffering along with those who commit adultery with her.
We finally crossed over to Turkey via the land border and the Strait of Dardanelles. Excited for more adventures and Biblical nerding out here!
Visited the oldest & biggest monastery in Meteora–The Great Meteoron, stopped by Vergina (Aigai) to see the Royal Tomb of King Philip II and Berea where Paul preached to the Bereans.
I used to just look at Meteora in photos. Seeing the rock formations & beautiful monasteries up close almost made me cry! Check out the vlog for more sights and tons of trivia!
My trip to Greece and Turkey is a testament of God’s goodness and provision. After going to the Holy Land, I was told that Paul’s Journey + Seven Churches of Revelation was coming up and immediately, I started praying to God to help bring me there. I know I could have gone to more places in Asia which are much nearer and the fares much cheaper, but what I really wanted was a meaningful trip that would be educational and so in line with my faith. The Holy Land trip clearly impacted how I study God’s Word, having seen the places mentioned in both the Old and New Testament. Still, I knew there was more to see. Going to Greece meant retracing Paul’s steps as he shared the gospel far and wide despite the dangers, opposition and imprisonment that he faced. I will talk more about Turkey and our visit to Patmos in the next travel vlogs. Enjoy our arrival in Athens! If you are a follower of Jesus Christ and love God’s Word, this is a trip I recommend that you take!
Looking at my calendar for the month of May has made me realize that I am in dire need of more nature time. Growing up in Rizal, I loved waking up to the sound of birds chirping, the cool air and the sight of lots and lots of trees which unfortunately, I no longer get enough of since we moved to the concrete Kingdom of Makati. There’s something about communing with nature that calms and heals the frazzled soul. I remember in college, I’d always look forward to days when my classes would end right before lunch because that meant I’d have time for a nature walk. Leading naturalist Richard Louv, author of The Nature Principle says “We can be happier, healthier, and smarter if we weave more nature into our lives,”
I was so delighted to receive an invitation from the sales team of Sandari Batulao to check out the sprawling residential mountainside community which is quickly becoming a popular destination for camping, outdoor activities and weddings. Conveniently situated at the foot of Mt. Batulao and Mt. Talamitam, the temperature and wind feels noticeably different despite the hot summer weather.
For the final challenge, the Juanderlust team took us to the Mapanuepe Lake at San Marcelino, Zambales. Watch the video to see the beautiful lake and learn more about it’s history.
