SAMPLE ROOM MEDIA LAUNCH

8 - Sample Room New Packaging

I have been working with Sample Room for about four years now. I met Sophie Uy (one of the founders) when we were chosen as two of the 10 Women of Confidence here in the Philippines.

WomenofConfidence

We kept in touch after that and discovered we shared the same faith. Sample Room was just starting out back then and I agreed to help them get the word out. You’re probably wondering, “Why did it take so long for Sample Room to be officially launched?”
13217329_1044702678933732_4352591042587876423_oWell number 1, it’s a start-up. The four founders Sophie Uy, Katherine Sy, Diana Ong and Nats Toh know each other from school and all have their own businesses. The whole concept of TRYVERTISING was completely new back then and it took a while for brands to actually warm up to it. With the rise of subscription boxes and the growing popularity of online reviews (which a lot of consumers now turn to before making any product purchase), brands soon realized the value of a community wherein real people can actually try out their products and give them authentic feedback about it. If I were the brand, that would actually serve me well–I get to create buzz about my product, I get real reviews and I’ll know if there are things I still need to improve.

Sample Room is also greatly beneficial to consumers who are always on the lookout for new products. The thing is, we have to be well-aware of the fact that not all products work well with our skin type and body chemistry. Imagine purchasing an entire bottle of moisturizer that costs a fortune only to find out three days after trying it, that it’ll cause your skin to break out? Would you still insist on using the product just because you spent a fortune on it? I don’t think so. That’s where Sample Room comes in.

You can sign up with an email address for free and get 100 points upon successful registration. These points are what you use to avail of free samples on the website. Each product has a corresponding number of points. After you pick your products, pay for the delivery fee and once they arrive, you can peacefully try them out right in the comfort of your own home. Within a week of trying it out, you can write about your experience on the Sample Room website and replenish the points you spent.

Give http://www.sampleroom.ph a visit and sign up now! Check out the VLOG I managed to film in between my hosting duties for them.

Human Nature’s First Ever SOS Coastival

13086766_10150656620149969_5140369495622816204_o

I had the wonderful privilege of hosting Human Nature’s S.O.S. Coastival which was held at San Juan, La Union. It’s been more than two decades since I last set foot in La Union (shame on me). I remember snippets of when I was two and running around barefoot with my cousins. My dad says I was so scared of swimming in the ocean probably because it was unfamiliar territory. Of course, I’m good friends with the sea now! Heck, I enjoyed my last scuba diving trip!

13130882_10150656620569969_7050141419595344802_oHuman Nature brought together media friends and influencers who can help get the word out about the current state of our oceans, our animal friends and the environment as a whole. Can you believe that even if we live in the city, our daily habits affect the ocean? That’s why you have to be more mindful of the products that you use. Plugging and endorsement aside, we should make it a habit to check the labels on products.

SLS/SLES (or: sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate, ammonium lauryl sulfate, ammonium laureth sulfate) are found in shampoos and soaps. It’s a skin irritant and toxic to aquatic organisms. Axe SLS & SLES. Switch to gentler, plant-derived cleansers.

Plastic microbeads (or: polyethylene, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, polymethyl methacrylate) are found in facial scrubs and toothpaste. They stay up to 50 years in the environment, plus trillions of microbeads pollute our waters, get eaten by fish, and make their way up the food chain. Yes, to you and me. Ban the bead and scrub with love – use biodegradable exfoliants.

Oxybenzone (or: butylparaben, octinoxate, 4-methylbenzylidene camphor) is found in chemical sunscreens. Toxic to corals at the ratio of 1 drop in 6.5 Olympic-size swimming pools. Cease coral killing. Use physical sunscreens that contain reef-friendly zinc oxide instead.

Mineral oil (or: petroleum, petrolatum, paraffin) is found in makeup, lotions, conditioners and moisturizers. It’s a non-biodegradable by-product of fossil fuels, classified a carcinogen by the World Health Organization. Ditch mineral oil and moisturize with plant-based oils instead.

Aside from the learning sessions, attendees also joined artist AG Saño in the creation of the 180-meter sand art which did not use any paint or cement.

There were also various booths from participating partners like Save Philippines Seas, WWF for Nature Philippines, CURMA, La Union Soul, Meg Magazine (I loved their free buko and of course, a free magazine!!), Bayani Brew and Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit. We also had our dose of exercises for the afternoon as Planet Zips‘ Paolo Soler led the poi workshop, Corey Wills took care of the yoga class while Formado Pirulito of Escola Brasileira de Capoeira stretched our muscles and challenged our coordination skills with the capoeira workshop. Wedding Blog: Charles and Roxanne

Roxanne got in touch with me 5 months before her wedding, thanks to Bridal Book. 🙂 It always brightens my day whenever I get emails from prospective clients who say that they read good reviews from these very helpful bridal forums. It pushes me to consistently give my best and always make sure that the clients and their guests are happy.

Their wedding was held at Fernbrook Gardens in Quezon City. It was quite an adventure getting there, because I couldn’t seem to remember the streets from the previous times I drove to the venue. With my trusty Waze, I was able to navigate and get there before my call time.

Ivan and Anne’s Wedding @ The New World Hotel

It was so hard to call it a night when I met Ivan and Anne for the first time in December 2013. There we were, huddled in the middle of Starbuck’s Glorietta, exchanging stories like we were already long time friends.

Ivan and Anne are both successful dentists who are passionate about what they do. To relax, they enjoy visiting different places around the world. I was looking at their looping travel photos during the reception and I thought “They’re really making the most out of life!”
