My Tried and Tested Flu Remedies

December isn’t just peak season for social events and Christmas parties. The change in weather and the flurry of activities can make one’s immune system weak and susceptible to viruses. I thought I’d be able to get through December without getting sick but nope, I still fell ill after I walked in the rain. I was checking out a Christmas bazaar one week night and didn’t think of bringing an umbrella because I figured the December weather this year is so much like summer, surely it won’t rain. But it did and next thing I know, I was sneezing repeatedly and had a runny nose. Had to admit I got sick and put myself through rest and recuperation.

TRYING OUT ERICH GONZALES’ SLIMMING SECRET

IMG_8572

Ever had those times when you just want to eat all the food in the world without having to worry about gaining weight and growing those love handles? Even if I’m huge on vegetable smoothies and salads,  I have to admit that I get tempted when I’m faced with sweet desserts, pasta, crispy pata, bagnet and tender ribs. I have to battle with that inner voice that says “Come on. Just once.” But I know full well that that “Just once.” can lead to me using that as an excuse every single time I’m at a buffet spread. It takes discipline, doesn’t it?

Checking out the NU Skin Expo

Dave and I checked out the NU SKIN Expo held at the NU Skin Philippines HQ. We got to try out the Galvanic Spa (which helps combat aging!), their Epoch Essential Oils, their Trimshake and their body analysis machine which revealed that my body age is 5 years younger than my real age!

The S3 Biophotonic Scanner also revealed my skin carotenoid score which is an indicator of the tissue carotenoid concentration and antioxidant levels of my body. If you get a 10,000-19,000 score, that means 1) You don’t consume enough vegetables, fruits and supplements 2) You’re under a lot of stress; high sun and pollution exposure and 3) You smoke or are always exposed to someone who smokes.

If you get a 30,000-39,000 score, you 1) Get a moderate amount of fruits and vegetables 2) Have regular supplementation 3) Moderate stress, sun, and pollution exposure.

40,000-50,000 means you consume huge amounts of fruits and vegetables, have optimal supplementation, low stress, sun and pollution exposure. I was surprised that I got 60,000! 😀 All that vegan food is doing me good! Watch the different stations we visited in the vlog below

Greens, Juice Bar and Meatless Options at Hillside Cafe

Adding this to my list of happy, vegan-friendly restaurants that I must frequent! Since I went on a lifestyle and diet adjustment in August of this year, one of the challenges (aside from strictly preparing my own meals) was finding easily-accessible restaurants that served plant-based, organic food.

Go Salads is good but my tastebuds started looking for something different, specially now that I’ve tried almost everything on their menu. To be fair to Go Salads though, I’d say it’s my new “fast food” now because when you walk into their store or stall, they get to prepare your salad, sandwich or green smoothie in less than 15 minutes.

Back to Hillside Cafe and Juice Bar.

The only branch they have presently is at Mo. Ignacia, which is surprisingly just near the seminary I go to. I like that the place isn’t so huge. It’s very quaint, perfect for meetings, dates and catch-up sessions. Their salad servings are huge, good enough for two, I would say but if you’re a vegetable monster like me, I’m sure you can consume the entire plate by yourself. I ordered the Superfood Salad (which has kale, mixed greens, quinoa, beets, carrots, malunggay flakes and a vinaigrette dressing) and the Hillside Greens Smoothie (which has spinach, moringa, mango, banana, chia seeds, coconut meat and coconut water). Sophie and Kath ordered the Aglio Olio Pasta and the Tropical Smoothie. Watch the video below and do visit Hillside Cafe! 😀

FLUSHING 25L OF WATER UP MY COLON

Eeep! Doesn’t the thought just make you cringe? It was my first time to try out colonic hydrotherapy at The Zen Institute at Tomas Morato. Fast facts to answer your already brewing questions:

WHAT IS COLONIC HYDROTHERAPY?

Clean, distilled water is flushed into your colon through a pipe which goes up your anus. This loosens and flushes out the plaque that forms in the walls (especially the corners) of your big intestines.

WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE?

First off, the pipe going up my anus was one of the weirdest cringe-worthy sensations I have ever felt in my entire life. Once the water fills your colon, you begin to feel the urge to poop. Ms. Aiza my nurse attendant, told me that I simply just had to let go, like I would regularly do during bowel movement.

HOW LONG IS THE PROCESS?

The 25L of water took 45 minutes to finish. You have to make sure you excrete all the water in your colon so you may feel the need to still sit in the toilet even if the pipe is removed from you.

HOW OFTEN CAN I DO IT?

Some do colonic hydrotherapy every week (because they want to lose weight) but it is recommended that you do it once or twice a month. It helps keep the colon healthy and can help prevent infection and polyp growth.

Now, go and watch me cringe, get nervous and talk through the whole process:

After the session was done, I was told to eat light. No meat, nothing too difficult to digest but yeah… I COULD EAT! I was so hungry after the whole process but I loved the fact that my tummy was smaller and I felt so much lighter. Now you’re probably asking how does this aid in weight loss? It helps clean out your system from the inside so that you can better absorb the nutrients from what you eat and you don’t feel sluggish. Of course it’s best to partner this with a healthy, fibre-rich diet + exercise.

I can feel that your next question would be HOW MUCH DOES THIS COST? IS IT WORTH IT?

There are different packages suited for a person’s needs. Say for example, you’d like to manage your weight but have no time for exercise, they put together procedures for you  so you can still achieve your weight goals. The same goes for those who want to manage their weight but are able to commit to regular exercise. Wellness and Weight Management sessions usually start at P5,000 (depending on the procedure or service) while package treatment prices start at P25,000. If you want to save up, it would be worth looking into the Zen Institute Membership Card priced at P5,000 for Silver or P10,000 for Gold. Membership allows you to enjoy benefits worth P50,000-100,000 for one whole year.
