It’s very important to be relaxed a few days into your wedding. I know this is easier said than done because even I was admittedly still tying a few loose ends the day before we tied the knot! We chose Discovery Suites in Ortigas because it was one of the nearest hotels to our wedding venue and it was right smack in the middle of malls so in case I had to go get something last minute, it was much more convenient than having to travel to and from Ortigas and Makati.

While there are other hotels in Ortigas, we ended up at Discovery because it was highly recommended by a friend. There were also good reviews regarding the hotel’s amenities, their brand of service and the sizes of their rooms.

Wedding Things We Scrimped On: Wedding Shoes

When I started meeting my designer for my wedding gown, I didn’t fuss so much about wedding shoes. I know it had to flow with my gown’s overall look but it also had to be comfy. I’m no stranger to walking and standing for several hours and I know it can be very excruciating if the footwear is tortuous.

Earlier in my working life, I did go through a phase of buying and collecting beautiful shoes that were at least 4 inches because I love how high heels can make your legs and feet look sexier. While I still am particular about quality, style and durability, I have entered that life stage of embracing low-heeled shoes and tasteful flats because I’ve learned to prioritize my body alignment, foot and back health.. Walking and standing in high heels can be learned; you can train your body and muscles to get used to them, but one unfortunate miscalculated movement  and you can trip, fall and injure yourself. I didn’t want that happening on my wedding day.

Looking for the right wedding shoes wasn’t such a long process for me because I knew what I was looking for: comfortable, tasteful and something that would go well with my gown. Also, since my gown was floor-length and had a train, I didn’t see the point of wearing heavily-decorated shoes. Our ceremony venue and reception venue was just one and the same place: our home church, Greenhills Christian Fellowship. The venue is significant because this is where we became friends, got to know each other, grew spiritually and served together in ministry. We booked Auditorium B (where the Sunday worship services are held) which had more than enough space for our 100 guests.

A wedding is a once in a lifetime event so it’s perfectly understandable why so much thought goes into what one would wear for a milestone such as this. The wedding attire usually eats up a significant chunk of the wedding budget but it got me thinking, must it always be that way? Is it a capital sin if we decide to scrimp on this one? Will the wedding not push through if i don’t spend at least 6-digits on my wedding gown?

A lot of us are pressured to keep up with what’s popular. Sure, there’s nothing wrong with the desire to get married wearing a beautiful, well-crafted gown. If you’re the sentimental type and have plans of having your wedding gown boxed, framed and displayed, if that makes you happy, go for it. For me however, I am averse to clutter. I wanted my wedding gown to be special but I also wanted to make sure it was something I could wear multiple times in different ways. In the video I talk about how I discussed my wedding gown details with my designer, Hanna delos Reyes and how Dave also had his own coat barong customized.

Hey everyone! Here’s another tip on what hubby and I scrimped on for our wedding: Printed wedding invites. Some couples may feel that this is something you can’t skip; again your wedding, your rules. I’m just happy that Dave and I agreed that we can do e-invites and allot the wedding budget elsewhere. It was easier for us to monitor our guestlist and it was also more convenient for our guests to confirm or decline.

After making a list of our essentials and nice-to-haves, it was easier for us to assess which ones we’d allot more money for in our budget. When you’re planning your wedding, it’s important to remember that:

1) advice from experienced wedding professionals is valuable but be discerning as well. There are some that I have worked with who put the welfare of their clients and fellow suppliers above all, and then there are those who have a different agenda.

2) seeking inspiration is good but ultimately, it’s still YOUR WEDDING, so your rules and preferences will take precedence. Don’t allow popular trends and peer/family pressure to dictate how you’re supposed to wed.

Our Wedding Day Vlog

I thought it was highly possible for me to vlog the whole wedding day. I needed help! I’m thankful that our wedding photographers, my bridesmaids and maid of honor were more than happy to step in and tell the story of our wedding day.

Things I learned?

  • Matagal pala talaga yung prep shoot. Of course it looks so easy and fast when the photos are put together na for the SDE but… haha let me tell you NO. With all due respect to our photographers, they really did a great job and I know they wanted to get a lot of amazing shots because this is their craft. I guess I just had to properly psyche myself. Hindi kasi professional mowdel si Ingrid. :p
  • EAT. AS IN. It’s bound to be a long day.
  • We should have taken pictures with our family and other guests in our photobooth. 😦 I’m thankful that our supplier Photomocoh extended their hours just to make sure that Dave and I had shots of ourselves at the photobooth. That was very nice of them.
  • Even if you think you’ve planned everything, you have to learn to let go and entrust the execution to the coordinators and people involved. Yes, there will be things that won’t go according to the outline but you just have to let go and ENJOY EVERY SINGLE MOMENT because the time just zooms through so quickly.
