Just thought I’d share this with you.
Date: March 21 and 28, 2007/Wednesday
Place: Greenbelt 2
Happening: Mellow Everywhere/Greenbelt 2 Brazilian Nights with Sofia
Oh mi bela menina [Ingrid, trying her luck at Portuguese. That means beautiful lady by the way]! I’ve only heard about Sofia from all these forums talking about bossa nova. I did see her video “Waters of March” on MYX a couple of times but I didn’t know that she’s an all-out adorable person who’s super down to earth.
I had the privilege of getting to know this petite cantante when she performed for Mellow Everywhere. When I meet a person for the first time, I tend to observe a lot. From the minute mannerisms to the way of speaking and how he/she conducts himself/herself in front of people. Sofia absolutely had no airs—she spoke like we knew each other for the longest time and she seems pretty oblivious to the fact that a lot of people appreciate her talent and her voice. I know I did. We also had so much fun reminiscing UST, as we both are Thomasians, having graduated on the same year. The night time mosquitoes on the catwalk, famous Dapitan eateries and the campus sights. We were laughing our heads off when she was called to get ready to start off the first set.
Sofia’s not one who just got on the whole bossa wave. Mind you, this girl knows bossa nova. Maybe she’s not that much of an expert as Eileen Sison is, but this girl knows the roots! She spices up her performances with a little Portuguese here and there, and my goodness! What proficiency she has! I haven’t been able to get the correct pronunciation of basic Portuguese words for the life of me. She eagerly taught me simple words and phrases, the most of which I do not remember now. She also plays the guitar and the Irish bohdran and she delights the audience as she tinkers on the instruments every time she performs. Oh and did I mention she has two albums under her belt? Impressive really. I am extremely blessed to have known this beautiful soul.

Next up… I have one more. Julianne! Another lovely singer whose music I absolutely dig. 🙂
